The sky spoke melancholy's name
Upon the winters fallen below
The words immure in a crystalline frame
In a frenzied blur of bitter snow

The picture drifts further away
Blurring into the distant sky
My sanity and I part
We break our ties

The world in spiral descent at my side
I arose into union with this night sky
On this, the darkest night, I cried
For the poor soul lost behind these eyes

The picture drifts further away
Blurring into the distant sky
My sanity and I part
We break our ties

The scarred and twisted wreckage inside
My eyes are ablaze in the fiery ice
Into oblivion I ride
Alone on this Wintry night

Descent back into the world below
With the gift of enlightenment my prize
To realize time is not mine
Sailing on the frozen sea of life

My ship of decadence I sail
A vigil, the wind, and I alone
I dream of the candle left burning for me
To cast the light upon my journey home

I'm coming home...

Some notes about the song:

This song was originally only a short instrumental, though I always intended for it to be a full-blown song with vocals and all.  What it turned into, now that it got them, is something far more than I imagined.  I couldn't be happier with it now, and really think it rawks \m/

For some technical information: The main rhythm parts were done on my Ibanez AX220 turned-into-a-baritone guitar, with the melody going mostly from E to E-flat, but occasional going below that.  I'm really impressed with how good that guitar sounds!  The solo work then was done on my Ibanez RG (which has now effectively been obsoleted by my new Jackson SLSMG!).  Both guitars ran only through a POD 2.0, with some effects and minor EQ applied in SONAR (where all the recording and sequencing was done).  All the keyboards and drums, as usual, come out of my Roland XP-30.  The vocals were all done using an old Peavey PVM mic (a Shure SM57 clone).  It's not a very good mic, but I think it did a pretty good job.  The only effects on the black metal vocals are some compression, reverb and a cool delay that adds a neat atmosphere I think.  I finally upgraded my sound card, and now have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, which has tons more features, and 24 bit processing.  It's REALLY working well, and makes plugging stuff into the computer a piece of cake.  The SONAR I'm using is version 3.1.1, with most of the effects being Cakewalks Fx, and the Lexicon reverb.  As with my previous song, "Seismonic...", everything was recorded dry, and then the effects applied real time onto the tracks in SONAR.  Man this works good!!!  It makes it so nice to tweak and mess with settings to get the sound just right.

Now... only a dozen more songs to go! :)
